Blazblue is epic
I learnt of Blazblue in about 2013 when at my older sister's birthday party her friend brought over some games to play, which included Blazblue. I can't remember if it was Calamity trigger or Continuum shift but I liked it. Later at the video game shop I spotted a used copy of Calamity Trigger for the PS3(EU version). I convinced my sister buy it, from there I would watch her play some of the story mode.
In about 2016 I was at blockbuster and was in the anime section when I saw Blazblue Alter Memory surprised it had an anime of course I had to watch it. After that I asked my mum to order Continuum Shift for me. I spent many early mornings and school afternoons completeing the arcades and playing the story mode. When I hear Endless Despair I know its a bad time. I think Continuum Shift might just be my favourite over Calamity Trigger, but by a smidgen.
After finishing Continuum Shift I asked this time for Chronophantasma Extend. I remember the power going out the first time I was playing with it. Also it was the first game I had played with Makoto playable so I remember that vividly too. As for my thoughts on it I was a bit disappointed in the sound design from the sfx to the new versions of the original songs. Some of the ui visuals weren'y my favourite either and it took a while to warm up to some of the new characters and story. I still miss the characters having their own stories but I understand why it changed.
This was all before Centralfiction came out on console so naturally I asked for it for my birthday in 2017, it came out about a month after. Centralfiction was interesting because it was the only Blazblue game that I was there for when it came out. I remember seeing screeshots from the arcades and I watched the cutscenes before the game arrived. Centralfiction probably has the best combat in the end but there is much to said about the story. Also the lack of dub disappoints me still, but its not the end of the world. The visuals of this game are quite gorgeous though, and I prefer its look to Chronophantasma a lot. More blue đź’™
This era was probably a peak of my Blazblue obession I had folders full of downloaded art from the games, songs, voicelines, fanart and memes (even more full in recent years hah). I frequented the fandom wiki but we don't talk about that now lol. Check out the current wiki its much better https://blazblue.wiki/
In 2021 when Blazblue Alternative Dark War came out it was the final push for me to play XBlaze which I had avoided up until then. I only knew Es from Centralfiction at that point and unfortunately she is stripped of a lot of her character there, although I'm glad she's playable. In the end I throughly enjoyed it and the sequel too, Please if you're interested in Blazblue but haven't played it give it a go!
Regarding Blazblue Alternative Dark War I'm still sad about how it ended (game closed after less than a year) but I am very happy how much art and voicelines it provided us with especially in regard to side characters and characters from spin off that didn't have much attention before then! My only wish is that Tomonori came out before the game closed:(
Another spin off I like to talk about is the Heart mangas. I can't remember if I read Remix Heart before or after I watched Remix Heart Gaiden but either way I remember being like ohh this is so raunchy to read looking behind my shoulders and all, now days that doesn't bother me so much but it has a lot of characters that are favourites to me and I love Mai's storyline. Variable Heart adds more to this with a bit better thought out story as well.
This is probably most of my history with it, maybe missing bits and pieces but in the end I just really love Blazblueđź’™ Its full of interesting storylines and characters. Not to mention its full of amazing art and music too. A lot of my opinions on characters and a other things have evloved a lot over the years. Most characters I'm neutral on now even if they're not my favourite I can still talk about them. Since about 2020 I've been mainly hanging out with the Blazblue community on tumblr if you want to see HEAPS of Blazblue posts of all kinds I have a tag https://smellpelt.tumblr.com/archive/tagged/blazblue
This might take some deliberating so come back later...
Of course with such an obsession I have plenty of merch, although I have only started collecting in the last few years. These photos show most of my collection but I will list other things I have bought since then or aren't pictured below.
These two might be my favourites
I also have a Noel cosplay! Here's me wearing it to my first con in 2024.
I bought it and then adjusted it to fit better with the help of my granny who also gave me the gloves as the ones that came with it were garbage. I was also recognised as Noel or Blazblue character and asked for photos by at least 2 people! Although I didn't see any other fighting game cosplays sadly.
At the second con I went to I got an autograph from Susanoo's English voice actor Ray chase!
